Dr. Jamal Nazrul Islam


1. Early life
Jamal Nazrul Islam was born February 24, 1939 in Jhenaidah.It's notable that originally his fore-fathers hailed from Narayanhat union of fatickchari Upazilla in Chittagong district [1] .He was a student of Chittagong Collegiate School and got double promotion for his outstanding performance. He received his BSc (Honors) degree from the historic University of Calcutta. He further studied at the Trinity College, Cambridge.

2. Life and career
Jamal Nazrul Islam obtained his PhD from the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics of University of Cambridge in 1964. He obtained his DSc from University of Cambridge in 1982. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Maryland from 1963-1965. He was a Staff Member of the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy of University of Cambridge from 1967-1971. He was a Visiting Associate in Physics at California Institute of Technology from 1971-1972. He was a Senior Research Associate of the Department of Astronomy at University of Washington from 1972-1973. He was also a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics at King’s College London from 1973-1974. He was a Science Research Council Fellow at University College, Cardiff, UK from 1975-1978. He was a Lecturer and Reader of the Department of Mathematics at The City University, London from 1978-1984. Now he is a Professor at University of Chittagong, Bangladesh.

Visiting associate at the California Institute of Technology from 1971-1972.
Senior research associate at the University of Washington from 1972-1973.

Fellow of science research council at Cardiff, University College from 1975-1978.
Lecturer and reader at City University, London from 1978-1984.
Professor at Chittagong University in Bangladesh.
